LETCHER COUNTY (EKB)– A magistrate candidate was indicted and arrested on several charges this week, including sexual abuse of a young child and possession of child pornography.

According to court documents, a Letcher Grand Jury indicted 61-year-old Emory Lee “Fudge” Mullins on one count of first-degree sexual abuse for allegedly abusing a child less than 12 years old during a vacation bible school event in the summer of 2014.

EKB News is reporting that in a separate indictment, Mullins is charged with eight counts of possession of a matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor. The indictment lists a violation date of “on or about” Feb. 9.

In a third indictment, the grand jury charged Mullins with two counts of retaliating against a participant in the legal process in relation to incidents occurring in February and earlier this month.

According to EKB News, Mullins was arrested on a criminal trespassing charge for this month’s incident, in which he allegedly entered the property of Carty Funeral Home after being ordered verbally and by court order to avoid the property and its owners. The owners and operators of the funeral home are listed as the victims of the retaliating charges.

Mullins won the Democratic nomination for the magistrate race in Letcher County’s third district last month, and is set to face Republican and write-in opposition in the November general election.

He remains lodged in the Letcher County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond.
