PIKEVILLE, Ky. (LEX 18) – A bald eagle rescued by a volunteer firefighter was released back into the wild over the weekend.
Hank D. Simpson, a volunteer firefighter at the Millard Fire Department found an injured eagle a few months ago. He rescued the animal and took it to the game warden. The injuries were believed to have been the result of a fight with another eagle.
The animal was taken to Somerset for rehab for approximately 2 months. After he was deemed healthy enough he was returned to The Fishtrap Lake area in Pikeville.
Simpson tells LEX 18 that they call the eagle Jefferson.
