Police Seek Leads On Shooting Death Outside Lexington Bar

Posted

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — After a man was shot to death last Saturday outside of the Office Lounge, the owner tells LEX 18 that he is working with police and hopes the shooter is caught.

Witnesses said the incident started as a confrontation in front of a liquor store on Eastland Parkway, then the people involved ran around the corner and fired shots outside of the Office Lounge.

"They just heard a bunch of popping and cracking and everything and found out right in front there, there was shooting," said Kenneth Shields, the owner of the Office Lounge.

Shields said it was a terrifying ordeal for his staff and the last few customers at his bar, just after closing time Saturday morning. He said he wanted to be clear that none of the patrons at the Office Lounge was involved in the shooting.

"It’s hard to accept in this type of business that this stuff could be happening. So we’re hoping to work with the law on it and do what we can to help," said Shields.

Demarcus Clay, 45, was killed. Shields said that in light of the shooting, they’re hiring more security for outside the bar and looking into other options.

Above all, he said it is crucial that whoever did this is caught.

"Their day will come, I hate to say it that way, but you know, it needs to stop, the gun violence. Everyone just needs to work together and be a family and be happy and enjoy life," said Shields.

Lexington police are asking for help in the case. If you saw anything that night, you’re asked to give police a call.
