GRAYSON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A Grayson County Middle School teacher is facing multiple sexual assault charges against a minor student, becoming the fourth Grayson County teacher to be arrested on child sex-related charges in about 18 months.

Leitchfield police say the charges against 65-year-old John W. Cariel of Leitchfield stem from "an inappropriate relationship with a student."

Cariel is charged with first-degree sexual abuse, second-degree sodomy, prohibited use of electronic communications to procure minor for sex, and distribution of obscene material to minors.

Police say the charges stem from incidents that occurred in October 2017.

Cariel is being held in the Grayson County Detention Center.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and that more charges are possible.
