Posted

LARUE COUNTY, Ky (LEX 18) On April 18, 2018, KSP responded to an officer-involved shooting in Larue County.

KSP said that on that day, Deputy Kevin Bennett with the Larue County Sheriff’s Office observed 35-year-old Jason Schafer, of Elizabethtown, driving a 2008 Chevrolet pickup truck. Deputy Bennett had knowledge that Schafer had an outstanding warrant from his arrest. KSP said that Deputy Bennett initiated a traffic stop and Schafer failed to stop. The pursuit lasted around 20 minutes and ended on a private property in the Roanoke community.

KSP said Deputy Bennett discharged his service weapon striking Schafer. Schafer was airlifted to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment.

Deputy Bennett was placed on administrative leave as standard procedure.

The case is still under investigation.
