LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — A little girl left paralyzed after a drive-by shooting in Lexington is getting a very big gift in the form of a brand new wheelchair-accessible home.

A local company is also making a big difference to make that dream come true.

Amya Catching was celebrating her birthday last year when she was struck by a bullet from a drive-by shooting.

After learning Amya was still living in a split-level home that was not accessible for her wheelchair, the "Building Associates of Central Kentucky" took action.

They began the effort to build Amya’s family a brand new home on Bettys Court. With help from donations from across the community, the three bedroom, three bathroom home will be completely wheelchair accessible and will be completely free.

On Tuesday, Columbia Gas donated a $10,000 check to make the dream a reality.

The group hopes to have the home completed by August of this year.
