FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18) – After the controversial decision to remove a plaque on a statue of Jefferson Davis, a group has placed a sign on the monument in protest.
A committee made the decision in March to remove the plaque which read "Patriot. Hero. Statesman." The Historic Properties Commission quietly took the sign down without notifying the public.
On Monday, an organization called "Identity Evropa" replaced the plaque with a sign. The sign included the original text from the removed plaque, accompanied by a statement which reads "Our history will not be erased."
"Identity Evropa" describes themselves as "an American Identitarian organization."
