PERRY COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) – The Perry County Coroner confirms that the remains of a woman missing since February of last year were discovered not long after she went missing. It did, however, take one year to positively identify a skull found in the woods as belonging to Maudie Smith.

The coroner says the remains were taken to Tennessee and Texas as organizations worked to positively identify Smith.

A cause of death has not yet been determined.
