LONDON Ky. (LEX 18) — The Laurel County woman accused of starving a child in her care will face a judge Friday.

Sarah A. Sizemore, 30, of London was arrested after police say that DCBS began investigating the child’s welfare on April 12.

Police say the child, Sizemore’s nephew, was malnourished and had bruises and cuts all over his body. The child was taken to Saint Joseph London KentuckyOne Health then transferred by ambulance to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Medical staff reported that the child was suffering from extreme malnutrition. Sizemore, who was aware of the child’s physical condition, failed to seek medical attention for the child.

The 27-month-old boy weighed just over 20 pounds, according to police. Sizemore has four children of her own and is pregnant with a fifth. She was raising the toddler. Investigators said that her children appeared healthy. They are now staying with other relatives.

Police said that the mother of the 27-month-old boy is out of the picture and his father is in jail.

Sizemore was arrested and charged with first-degree criminal abuse of a child and endangering the welfare of a minor. She was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
