WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky (LEX 18) Crews responded to two fires at stores in Whitley County Friday just a twenty-minute drive apart.
The first fire was at a Tractor Supply store in Williamsburg. The second was at a hardware store in Corbin.
"This can’t be happening today, not really, but then you see the smoke and it’s like, holy cow," said John Disney, the store manager at W.D. Bryant and Son True Value in Corbin.
He said that he’s still in shock about what happened at the store late Friday morning.
"We heard a small explosion that led to multiple other explosions. When the first one went off, we tried to get everybody in the store out," he said.
Earlier, firefighters responded to another fire at the Tractor Supply, which police say was started intentionally by a suspicious device. Williamsburg Police said that they have a person of interest in their case. They believe that someone may have been retaliating against the business for some reason.
Corbin firefighters said that it is too early to determine if the two fires are connected, but they have no reason to believe that WD Bryant was set intentionally at this time.
