FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A man accused in connection with several thefts at hotels across the state is now in custody.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office says Shawn Ogden was arrested Monday night and now faces 22 warrants statewide.

"I know his mother, and she is a sweetheart. He’s got a son, so I don’t want to see him dead," said Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton. "I want to see him safe, and right now we know he’s safe. He’s in custody. He’s in jail. He’s safe."

Police say Ogden is accused of using a similar method of operation in each crime: distracting a clerk and stealing from the desk register.

Melton previously said he had identified Melton through LEX 18 coverage after a recent robbery.

"I looked on your all’s website and I saw the picture of the London robbery, so I zoomed in on it, and thought, that’s Shawn Ogden," said Melton.

Melton said he has known of Ogden for more than a decade.

"I had arrested him back in 2006 for the same type of crime,” said Melton.

Melton said among the warrants, Ogden is suspect of a robbery in Mt. Sterling at Corbin’s Quality Suites and at a Super 8 off Winchester Road in Lexington.
