GEORGETOWN, Ky. (LEX 18) – A former Georgetown Police detective was arrested Thursday on several charges.

Chris Bayer was charged with theft by unlawful taking, possession of a controlled substance and abuse of public trust. LEX 18 did a story in November of 2017 in which we followed Bayer as he busted a counterfeit sports merchandise ring, even finding a van with $30,000 worth of fake team baseball caps.

According to an indictment, Bayer is accused of removing drugs from the police department’s evidence locker and stealing $300 from the department that was initially intended to be used for distribution during a narcotics investigation.

He was also charged with possession of a controlled substance related to oxycodone that was prescribed to someone else.

Bayer quickly bonded out of the Scott County Detention Center.

He will be arraigned on May 7.
