Boy was it a hot one today! A number of spots around the area recorded the hottest temperatures of the year. The official high at Lexington's Blue Grass Airport was 97°. BUT as we've been telling you over the past several weeks, the thermometer at the airport seems to be running at little hot. Lexington was hotter than Louisville AND Bowling Green today. We are not typically the hottest spot in Kentucky. Different location, different environment, and different thermometer - the Kentucky Mesonet site in southern Fayette County registered a high of 92°. Error or not, it was one of the steamiest days of the year.
Today surpassed the previous hottest temperature of 94° from July 20th. Lexington has now racked up 33 days with highs of 90 degrees or above. This ties the tally from all of last year. The average number of 90-degree days is 19. We will be adding to that total over the coming days, and possibly beyond.
Monday will be another day of sweltering heat and humidity. Highs will return to the low and mid 90s with the heat index near 100° through the afternoon. Temperatures will gradually cool down through late week thanks to increasing storm chances and a passing cool front. After a "feel good" Friday with mild temperatures and lower humidity, things will start heating up next weekend.
