LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE 3) — One Louisville salon owner is making sure that every student that walks through her door feels confident going back to school.

Cassandra Smith, the owner of Bardstown Hair Salon, is shutting down her salon for three days to fill it with students in need of free hair services. She does their hair, and gives them a pep talk.

"If you look good, you feel good, and when you feel good, you raise your head high, and you go in with that confidence of, hey, I can do this, get my day started and know that I am somebody and I mean something," Smith told WAVE 3 News.

The success of last year's event has Smith constantly thinking of how she can make her mission bigger and better.

"Last year, I did 90 kids and this year, I want to get over 100, and the way my schedule is the next few days, I so think I am going to be able to reach that. Yes, my schedule is booked totally full," she said.

Smith is committing to the students year round, offering free services for any occasion or any mood, making sure that no child let's the pressures of fitting in get in the way of their education.

She funds all of this with her own money. To help her with her mission, click here.

The event lasts until August 14. You can make an appointment by calling Smith at (502) 572-8204.
