LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — A sixth grader at Christ the King has won a competition to have her artwork wrapped around a LexTran bus.

Polly Rink, 11, won the first LexTran bus design competition. Her design was chosen out of more than 70 entries.

"Polly's design met all of the criteria that we laid out in the beginning," said LexTran Assistant General Manager Jill Barnett.

Barnett said it was Rink's use of color, diversity, and the portrayal of an actual bus that stood out.

"Since it's on a bus, I put a bus stop and some people waiting there, and then I thought of graffiti because of being in the city and a lot of art on the walls," said Rink.

The sixth grader loves art, and over the span of a few weeks this summer, she created the design.

"I do a lot of drawing and I have a lot of markers and stuff," she said. "It took about three and a half hours."

The special bus started making routes Friday. The design will be on the bus for at least three months.
