SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A new school year means new teachers and new classrooms, and for Scott County, new school buildings.
Great Crossing High School's doors will open next week. The building will offer collaboration areas between classrooms and a section of the school known as the Tech Tower.
"Career and technical education is so important here in Scott County and across the commonwealth. We've added nine additional career pathways for our students. One specifically is the area of welding. We had 108 students sign up for a first ever delivered welding class and we're so excited about that," Scott County Superintendent Dr. Kevin Hub told LEX 18's Alex Valverde.
Also opening up next week is the new Creekside Elementary, which will be the ninth elementary school for the district. Hub says that the new buildings will reduce how crowded classrooms are and showcase the county's growth.
"I don't think there's anybody in Scott County or Central Kentucky that doesn't know that we're the fastest growing community in Kentucky," said Hub.
Freshman orientation for Great Crossing High School will be Friday, the first day of school in Scott County will be next Wednesday.
