LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A number of different law enforcement officers in Laurel County helped make the holidays brighter for area families through the annual "Shop with a Cop" event.
According to the sheriff's office, 35 supervisors, deputies, bailiffs and court security officers took part in the program on Saturday morning at the Walmart in London.
Reportedly this year's event provided 226 Laurel County children with toys and other Christmas gifts. "Shop with a Cop" is funded entirely by donations from local businesses, organizations and individuals.
$125 is spent on each child, with $100 going towards clothing and $25 being spent on toys. Area law enforcement officers partner with the kids during their shopping trip.
This is the 24th year for the program, which is put on by the Cumberland Valley Fraternal Order of Police.
The sheriff's office also wanted to recognize now deceased Laurel County Sheriff's Deputy Don Wattenbarger for his lifelong commitment and support of Laurel County's "Shop with a Cop."
