A video on social media that appears to show a boy punching a dog in the face has resulted in a law enforcement investigation.
The video, which appears to be recorded on Snapchat, shows the animal being hit once in the face.
The Laurel County Sheriff's office said that the dog was a stray and was being cared for by a woman who lives in the area. She found the dog dead on the side of a road five miles north of East Bernstadt. She then contacted law enforcement.
The dog was found with multiple stab wounds. Deputies have taken the animal to UK to be examined for a cause of death.
A juvenile and an adult were detained and the 17-year-old juvenile was charged with second degree animal cruelty: torture of a dog or cat offense. The sheriff's office told LEX 18's Jacqueline Nie that the charges are Class A Misdemeanors and the maximum punishment is 12 months in a detention center.
LEX 18 has decided not to show or post screenshots from the video as they are graphic and may be upsetting.
