Hannah Hamelback joins the LEX18 team as BBN Tonight's summer intern.From Paris, Kentucky, Hannah is a rising senior at Western Kentucky University, majoring in Broadcasting with a minor in Journalism.
She is involved with WKU’s student-produced sports show, The Extra Point, along with their student-produced news show, News Channel 12.
Hannah’s interest in journalism began in early high school, when she joined her school’s newspaper. She eventually became the Editor-in-Chief of the Le Petite Colonel for two consecutive years. She held several positions in high school that allowed her to gain public speaking experience, which is how her interest of broadcasting came to be.
Not only did broadcast journalism spark her interest, but Hannah had also grown up with a passion for sports. Whether it was playing, working, or watching, she knew sports would somehow be a part of her future career.
Hannah was awarded the Doctor of Sports’ Breakout Player of the Year in 2020 by Bourbon County’s sportswriter, Ivan Rice, for her basketball accomplishments. She was the first female to ever receive this award.
Further, Hannah hopes to continue a career in sports broadcasting and journalism, as her official job search will begin in just a few months!
