GARRARD COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A Garrard County businessman stepped up to help more kids join the Garrard County Youth Football League.

Up until the beginning of last week, only six kids had signed up to join the teams.

"I thought that if I offered to pay the registration fee and all that, that it would give the opportunity for more kids to be able to play and get involved," said Chris Elleman, the owner of Elleman Contracting.

The fee ranges from $45 to $65, depending on the child's age. Since Elleman offered to help, the number of kids signed up has jumped to about 50. Elleman told LEX 18's Alex Valverde that he wants others to have the same experience he had.

"Sports played a big deal. it taught us discipline, respect, leadership, just being a part of something positive," he said.

Garrard County Youth Football Director Donnelly Barnes told LEX 18 that he is hoping enrollment will continue to climb.

"We'll be at the Back To School night August 8th at Lancaster Elementary, Paint Lick Elementary, and Camp Dick Elementary. we'll have people there doing live sign-ups," said Barnes.

You can also get an application and sign up at Lancaster City Hill, the deadline for registration ends Thursday.
