‘Fixer Upper’ Is Returning To TV With A New Season

Do the words “shiplap,” “silo” and “magnolia” make you nostalgic for the bygone days of hearing Chip and “JoJo” ask, “Are you ready to see your fixer-upper?” If so, you might want to sit down (and find out if your cable, satellite or streaming service provider will be offering the Magnolia Network), because the Gaineses are coming back.

When Chip and Joanna Gaines announced in 2017 that they were leaving HGTV to focus on their growing family (their fifth child, baby Crew, was born in June 2018), fans were crushed. Their show “Fixer Upper: Behind the Design” followed, but it just wasn’t the same. And while viewers understood why the pair made the decision, many of them missed the lighthearted banter and stunning renovations of the Waco, Texas-based couple.

In 2019, they announced that they’d be back on our screens in some manner with the launch of their own network. The Magnolia Network was set to take over for Discovery’s DIY Network in the summer of 2020. And then, COVID-19 happened. As it has with so many things, the coronavirus pandemic pushed the network’s launch back to 2021.

However, it looks like the wait will be worthwhile. Magnolia Network posted this adorable tweet on Aug. 4.

“We’ve got big news,” they tweeted. “A new season of #FixerUpper is coming to Magnolia Network in 2021!”

That tweet has thousands of likes and comments, with fans sharing their enthusiasm.

“I LOVE THIS. We missed you both. Thank you for coming back,” Rick Steinburg (@Culthero72) commented.

“YEEEEEEES!!!” wrote Tina Thomas (@TinaLouiseThom6) “Fixer upper was my favorite show and I can’t wait for more!”

“I think I died and went to Magnolia heaven,” replied Cynthia Marie Flores (@CynthiaMaFlores) “Can’t wait for the new season.”

Chip elaborated in a blog post on the Magnolia website.

“This past year, we have poured our hearts into content and programming for Magnolia Network. Searching for stories we believe the world needs to hear. Stories that bring us together, that let us see things in a whole new light. Stories that connect us to our roots, and to one another. And for Jo and me, it dawned on us that we wanted to be a part of this lineup with a new season of ‘Fixer Upper.'”

He notes that viewers should expect some changes once the new TV show airs.

“In a lot of ways, the show is going to pick up right where it left off. These years in between have taught us a lot about ourselves and how we operate best, so we’re likely to do a few things a little differently this time around.”

While there’s no official date set for the network or its “Fixer Upper” reboot to air, they are currently casting for the show. If you own a home or are in the final stages of closing on a house in or around Waco, you might be a candidate. Check out the requirements and contact information on the Magnolia website.
