For those who watched all of Netflix in 2020 during stay-at-home orders, lockdowns, Saturday nights at home, and work-from-home breaks, good news - Netflix announced they are releasing a new movie every single week of 2021.

“We’re bringing you a year of films filled with more of the things we know our members love - zombies, cowboys, and high school romance,” Netflix said in their press release.

The new movies include projects starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Sandra Bullock, Dwayne Johnson, Idris Elba, Meryl Streep, Zendaya, Jennifer Lawrence, Ryan Reynolds, Jennifer Garner, Gal Gadot, Dave Bautista, Naomi Watts, Jake Gyllenhaal, John David Washington and Octavia Spencer, among others.

Also included in Netflix movies this year are the directorial debut of Lin-Manuel Miranda and Halle Berry.

Streaming companies like Netflix grew in popularity, and subscribers, in 2020 as movie theaters had to close or drastically reduce capacity because of coronavirus pandemic safety protocols. Last year, several movies had digital debuts and skipped theaters altogether, or had hybrid openings, like the latest Wonder Woman which opened in theaters and on HBO Max.

The tease posted to Netflix’s account says the streaming service will release 70 new movies in 2021, some have already been released.
