Emily McKinney is a local girl, born and raised right here in the Bluegrass! Mt. Vernon is her hometown. You can watch her on LEX 18 Saturday and Sunday evenings as well as Wednesday through Friday in the afternoon.
From a young age, Emily knew she wanted to be a meteorologist, but there was no specific event which led to her pursuing weather.
She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky then headed to Mississippi State University where she earned her master's degree in Geosciences with an emphasis in Broadcast Meteorology. During her time in Mississippi, Emily spent some of her free time storm-chasing in Dixie Alley and was a member of the 3-year winning forecasting competition team at State, which prepared her for what she does daily now.
Emily has worked in television for WNKY in Bowling Green; WYMT in Hazard; WVLT in Knoxville, TN and comes back home to Lexington from a 4-year stint as the morning meteorologist at WTRF in Wheeling, WV.
When Emily is not in the weather center forecasting, she enjoys trying all kinds of restaurants, walking her dog, Rupp, in local parks and, of course, cheering on her beloved UK Wildcats! She is thrilled to be back home in the #BBN.
