Nearly 50% of the Commonwealth (Fayette county included) has slipped into moderate drought with pockets of severe drought blossoming southwest and southeast. 30 day rainfall deficits are in the 2" to 3" range, numerous locations have yet to pick up measurable rainfall since late August. With a minimal to nonexistent rain chance this weekend into early next week it will get worse.
