LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– Fayette County Sheriff Kathy Witt and partner agencies have collected hundreds of coats this month for their 7th annual coat drive. For the second year in a row, the drive is being held in honor of Diana Ross, a local advocate and champion for victims of domestic abuse.

Ross' daughter, Amanda, was a domestic violence victim gunned down and murdered outside her downtown Lexington condo in Sept. 2009.

She spent her life helping people before and after Amanda's murder. Sadly, Ross passed away in 2018. Sheriff Witt is continuing her legacy of helping others.

The Diana Ross Winter Care Coat Drive runs through Dec. 31. Deputies have delivered warm coats to people who need them. You can donate or pick up coats at the sheriff's office located in the Fayette County District Court Building on the second floor.

There are also drop off boxes at the following locations:

Fayette Co District and Circuit Court Buildings

Chase Dry Cleaners on Ashland Avenue and at five Republic Bank Locations:

Andover: 3098 Helmsdale Place

Chevy Chase: 641 E. Euclid Avenue

Harrodsburg Road: 2401 Harrodsburg Road

Tates Creek: 3608 Walden Drive

Vine Street: 333 W. Vine St. Suite 102

Though the drive runs through Dec. 31, a sheriff's spokesman says coats will be available through the winter.
