COVINGTON, Ky. — Two Covington police officers are on administrative leave as Kentucky State Police investigate an officer-involved shooting.
Covington police said officers responded to reports of an armed robbery at the US Bank in the 600 block of Madison Avenue at around 3 p.m. Friday. When officers arrived, they "encountered a man matching the suspect's description" less than a block away.
In a release, KSP said a preliminary investigation indicates officers called for the suspect, Charles Davis, to drop his weapon while they attempted to detain him. Officers fired their guns, hitting Davis. He was taken to UC Medical Center with what KSP said were not life-threatening injuries.
KSP was called to conduct an independent investigation into the shooting. The two officers involved will remain on leave while the investigation continues.
The 600 block Madison Avenue is a popular area home to multiple restaurants, shops and Hotel Covington. The hotel posted on social media that access could be limited during the police investigation.
