With COVID-19 keeping most people at home, many have opted to use their surplus of free time to try out some DIY projects. But the backyard pub created for one family in Northwest England might be the most elaborate, detailed and awesome project we’ve seen to date.
The traditional pub has been dubbed The Drunken Crab and was created by the husband-and-wife team behind Octavia Chic, a furniture refurbishing business in Wigan, Greater Manchester, UK. The couple used their time at home to turn an empty corner of their backyard into a mini bar, literally.
“My husband and I have had a very busy few weeks working on our favourite project to date,” Amy Octavia Casey wrote in a Facebook post. “‘The Drunken Crab’ built, painted and interior designed for the Crabtree family who are loving having their own pub in the Garden.”
Here’s the before picture, when the foundation was first laid for the pub:
The duo then used a log cabin shed kit, to which they added shingles, paint and wood stain:
Potted plants, flower baskets, a hanging sign and a lantern gave authentic pub touches to the outside:
But it’s the inside that will really amaze you. The designers have crammed so much into the little building that it’s as if a magical Extension Charm’s been used to expand the interior:
The cabin is chock full of details you’d find in a traditional British pub but scaled down. Coasters, quaint wall art and posters. A dartboard. There’s even a fire extinguisher by the door!
Beer and liquor are on tap, plus there’s a fridge full of other beverages and slots for wine bottles behind the bar:
Beer mugs hang along the top of the three-seat bar and steins decorate the rail above it:
You can sit at the corner bench table or pull up a chair at a small round tabletop:
The pub is even stocked with crisps (fried chips) and has a faux fireplace to up the cozy quotient:
People are resharing images of The Drunken Crab online, amazed at the personalized shed.
“This is brilliant, the new normal ur [sic] own pub in the back garden,” wrote Facebook user Carol Jones, commenting on one of the Octavia Chic photos.
Many comments asked if they could get one of these mini-pubs in their own yards. In a separate post on June 12, Octavia Chic’s owner Amy Casey wrote that they have a limited customer base.
“We are based in Wigan and as this took 3-4 week’s to complete we can only consider doing garden pubs in the Northwest,” wrote Casey.
Some Facebook commenters suggested adding some umbrella-covered tables and a chalkboard menu outside to complete the pub experience. But even with expanded seating, we’re pretty sure The Drunken Crab is open to a very select clientele—a.k.a the Crabtrees.
We think the family won’t have any problem sheltering at home this summer thanks to this kitted-out pub.
