LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — A mother and daughter are excited for a fresh start after receiving the keys to their new Habitat for Humanity home on Sunday.

Alphosine and her daughter Esther are originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, but they were living in a refugee camp in Uganda before coming to America.

Now, thanks to some hard work and help from Habitat, Alphosine is officially a homeowner.

She's also legally blind, and her new house on Burgess Avenue is equipped with special features that will allow her to be more independent.

The family is set to move in next week.
