LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Everyone has a birthday, but not everyone has the opportunity to celebrate their special day. One 9-year-old wants to help people with birthday boxes.

“Not all people have as much as I do. I want to share a little bit of my birthday with them,” said 3rd-grader Bella Smith.

Bella is a student at Wyan-Pine Grove Elementary School. She said that two years ago, a classmate told her that his family wasn’t able to celebrate his birthday.

“I just kind of felt down. I went from happy just to kind of miserable,” she said.

Bella shared the story with her mom, Marlana Evans, and the mother-daughter duo sparked an idea.

“She’s always had a heart for people and always been extremely kind and helpful toward other people,” Evans said.

The two created Birthday Boxes. The boxes include icing, sprinkles, and cake mix.

For her birthday Tuesday, Bella didn’t ask for presents, just Birthday Boxes.
