MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) – A Madison County 5th grader’s art is now flying high above her city and making a difference in the lives of children at the same time.

Driving down the streets of Richmond, the work of Nikki Stidham might catch your eye. Stidham, who loves to draw, created the photo of a mermaid that sits high in the sky in three different spots around the county.

The Billboards also read “Make Waves. Be a children’s champion.” That mission is now in its 22nd year in Madison County.

Each March attention across the county is turned to how adults can help keep kids safe and successful in their community, reminding them of the impact they have on children’s lives whether it’s by listening, supporting them, or simply being a good role model.

Stidham, with her mermaid design, is doing her part in spreading the message. Of course…she’s also enjoying the notoriety.

The billboards will remain up for two months in Madison County.

If you want to learn more about “Be A Children’s Champion” month, a ‘Kids Mall Madness’ event will be held on Saturday, March 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Richmond Mall.
