SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A Scott County Realtor is finding his own way to give back to those who have sacrificed for their community.

The program is called Heroes Home Advantage, and anyone from a police officer to school teacher can benefit from it.

Phillip Summers spent 12 years in law enforcement in Louisville until his career was cut short last year after an on-the-job injury. He told LEX 18 that after the injury, his right hand will never be the same and its strength is not what it used to be.

Summers never expected praise or recognition, which is why when he first heard about the Heroes Home Advantage, it took some prodding by his wife to convince him he deserved to reap the benefits of his sacrifice.

The Heroes Home Advantage is a program for anyone from law enforcement to military, firefighters, teachers, healthcare of emergency personnel. The program can help them buy or sell a house.

“It’s just a way to save the home town heroes money in the purchase of a home,” said mortgage loan officer JD Mechem.

Realtor Brett Halverson and Mechem are the only ones in Kentucky to offer the program that, on average, saves heroes $2,150.

“It just feels good to give back and they deserve it,” said Halverson.

The money the Summers are saving is helping them move from their 1,200-square-foot home to their dream house in Scott County. After a difficult year and losing the career he loved, Summers said it is a sweet gift that came at the exact right time.

“We’re just thankful and feel very blessed to have this,” said Summers.
