LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – A ring that represents a 12-1 football season at Georgetown College was found on the sidewalk in downtown Lexington by a homeless man and he tells LEX 18 he never once thought about pawning it.

Now, that ring is back on the finger of its owner.

Robert Eads, known as “Shorty,” was working with the city’s panhandling van back in August and picking up trash around the city. Something caught his eye, a ring.

“Really, I didn’t even know if it was real. But when I saw the initials engraved inside of it, it was all-team, all-American, I said, ‘no, this is real.’ It looked like it was just a little silver ring. It didn’t have any shine to it. Even the diamonds weren’t even shining, ” Eads told LEX 18.

“Shorty” says he tried calling the Georgetown College Athletic Department, but no one called him back.  He kept the ring in his pocket until he managed to track down the owner.

“Someone worked hard for that, to have a 12-1 season, you know, he worked really hard for it. He worked extra hard for that. So I knew it meant something to him. If it was the last thing I did, I was going to get that ring back to him,” said Eads.
