LEXINGTON, Ky. (University of Kentucky) — By Mirelle Taglor (Sept. 10, 2019) — When a regular day on the job turns into a heroic event, it can be quite jarring. Two University of Kentucky Information Technology Services (ITS) employees know exactly how it feels. Robert Holder and Chase Bronaugh from the Outside Plant crew (OSP) of the Division of Networking & Infrastructure experienced a halt in their work day as it turned into a joint effort to save a man’s life.
On a normal day in early August, the OSP team members were spending their day pulling cable through various manholes, when Holder was flagged down by another worker. A man who had been pressure washing one of the nearby buildings appeared to be experiencing a medical emergency in the street. Holder quickly approached him but realized he could not help on his own.
Bronaugh and Holder immediately called 911 and retrieved ice packs to cool the man down until paramedics arrived on the scene and took over care of the man who was expected to recover.
“We were just in the right place at the right time,” Holder said.
What do these humble guys want to be taken away from this story? Not their swift response or noble deed, but rather for everyone in the UK community to keep an eye out for each other and help people in need.
