LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Lexington Police confirm that six people were killed in a wrong-way crash on I-75 overnight.
The crash happened about 2:30 a.m. near the 107 mile marker. Investigators say a white Chevy pickup truck was heading south in the northbound lanes when it hit an SUV head-on. The truck was badly damaged and the SUV caught fire.
Police say the driver of the pickup and all five people in the SUV were killed.
The City of Lexington said in a release that the driver of the pickup was a 41-year-old resident of Georgetown.
The people inside the SUV were reportedly a family from Michigan. The names of those involved have not yet been released.
The northbound lanes were closed for hours as the accident reconstruction unit investigated the crash. They have since reopened.
Lexington Police now want to hear from anyone who saw the white Chevy truck before the crash.
