Crikey! There’s a little Crocodile Hunter in Bindi Irwin’s future.
The Animal Planet star just revealed her pregnancy to her social media followers. Irwin, who tied the knot with Chandler Powell just five months ago, is expecting.
Irwin says she is still in her first trimester, but she couldn’t keep the exciting news to herself any longer. Holding up a little khaki onesie with an “Australia Zoo” decal, Irwin and Powell posed together in the precious photo as they shared the news:

Proud dad-to-be Powell also shared the pregnancy reveal on his social media:
We’re going to be parents!! We have a baby Wildlife Warrior on the way coming in 2021. Becoming a dad is the highlight of my life. I cannot wait to embark on this new adventure and life chapter with my gorgeous wife, @BindiIrwin. Bee, you’re going to be the most amazing mother. pic.twitter.com/J7YSETn9Pb

Powell and Irwin first met in 2013 at the Australia Zoo, the 700-acre Queensland wildlife zoo which the Irwin family owns. Ironically, the couple met at the exact same location where “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin and wife Terri first met back in 1991.
“It was so cool seeing the parallels,” Powell says to US Weekly, regarding the serendipitous way he met his wife Bindi. “Because [Bindi and I met] right next to where Steve and Terri met [after] Steve had just finished a croc demonstration. I met Bindi right next door, and I was holding a koala and Bindi was holding an echidna, and it was just love at first sight.”
Powell popped the question on Irwin’s 21st birthday. As befitting the passionate wildlife conservationist, the engagement ring was eco-friendly, featuring a lab-grown diamond and rose gold recycled metal.
Mom Terri posted a congratulatory message on Twitter at the time, saying how happy she was and how happy her father would have been.
Best day ever! Chandler asked and beautiful @BindiIrwin said yes. I am so very happy, and I know Steve would be too. Congratulations!! pic.twitter.com/sN5sFnxZhI

A year later, just before Australia enacted quarantine guidelines, Irwin and Powell rushed to wed at their meeting place (and her parents’ meeting place). The originally-planned location was even more meaningful because Bindi Irwin chose Australia Zoo’s Africa Savannah as the backdrop for her wedding vows. This wildlife enclosure was one of her father’s greatest dreams, which he tragically did not live to see completed.
“So what’s really special is that we’re getting married in the place that was his biggest dream,” she said on Animal Planet’s “Bindi’s Wedding” special. “His goal was to open up this extraordinary area with African animals all roaming together, and our ceremony will take place with that right behind us.”
Here’s Irwin’s Twitter post from her wedding day:

Unfortunately, the paparazzi scared the animals in the exhibit by flying helicopters overhead, forcing the couple to wed inside a barn. Although the bride was disappointed, we know her father would have agreed with their choice to protect their animals’ welfare.
And we can’t help but wonder if their new baby‘s name might in some way honor Irwin’s late father. Either way, we know the little boy or girl will look adorable in that zookeeper onesie!
