LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — The Laurel County Sheriff's Office is looking for a man that they say attempted to sexually assault a woman after she mistook him for a police officer.

According to police, the woman left a London store and was followed on KY 192 by a grey or silver full-size passenger car. The car followed her so closely she was almost pushed off the road. She then says she saw red and white flashing lights so she pulled over, a man got out equipped with a large hunting knife.

The suspect forced himself into her vehicle making her drive several miles to a large hay field where he attempted to rape her. When he was unsuccessful, he made her drive back on KY 192. When he got out to make a phone call she drove off to Saint Joseph Hospital to seek medical attention.

Police arrived at the Hospital around 10:30 last night, and are now investigating this incident. Deputy Gilbert Acciardo with Laurel County Sheriff's Office says she is very lucky and as bad as this was it could have been much worse, "She could have easily been killed or sexually assaulted, there's just so many bad things that could have happened as a result of this."

If anyone has any information regarding a possible suspect or suspect's vehicle they are asked to contact the Laurel County Sheriff's Office at 606-864-6600.

They believe the suspect had help because police believe someone else drove off in the suspect's vehicle.
