MOUNT VERNON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Firefighters were at the scene of multiple forest fires in Kentucky which may have been spurred by strong wind gusts.
In Rockcastle County, fire crews worked to put out a forest fire off of Sand Springs Road. Any smoke seen in town or the Sand Springs area is from the fire.
Officials say another forest fire was brewing off Old Highway 11 in Jeffersonville, south of Mt. Sterling.
The Montgomery County Emergency Center reported the community is not in danger. As of 8 p.m., the fire was more than 90% contained.
