ROCKCASTLE COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — An early morning barn fire in Rockcastle County destroyed the structure and killed a family pet, officials say.
The Brodhead Fire Department says its crews were called out around 2:15 a.m. Sunday to a barn fire along Gum Sulfur Road.
Officials said the barn fire was “fully involved” when the first crews arrived.
Firefighters with the Western Rockcastle Volunteer Fire Department, Lincoln County Fire and Mount Vernon Fire Department all aided the effort.
Officials said the fire was struck out by 6:30 a.m.
However, authorities say the barn was a total loss and that a family pet died in the blaze.
Kentucky State Police investigators will probe the cause of the fire, the cause of which remains unknown.
