WILMORE, Ky. (LEX 18) — It was a tragic holiday for one Jessamine County family, who watched as their home went up in flames early Christmas morning.

The fire broke out around 3:45 a.m. at a two-story residence on Grows Mill Road.

Firefighters from Wilmore, Nicholasville and Jessamine County Fire District spent a chilly Christmas morning battling the fire for several hours. Their efforts were made all the more difficult by heavy mud, which slowed their ability to get water to the scene.

The occupants of the house all made it out safely.  A man in the home smelled smoke and managed to get his family out before their home was completely destroyed.

The Red Cross is working with the family to provide them with a place to stay.

There is no word yet on what caused the fire.

An early and sad start to Christmas morning for a family in Wilmore. Claire Kopsky – LEX 18 takes us to where their house used to be off Grows Mill Road.
